1What are the Redmi Buds 6 Play?

The Redmi Buds 6 Play (model M2420E1) are the most affordable true wireless earbuds in Xiaomi's Redmi Buds 6 line. They're bean-shaped in-ear buds in black, white, blue and pink, officially distributed by Xiaomi Vietnam with a 12-month warranty. Typical retail prices are around 250–300K VND depending on the store and timing. At this price they compete directly with unbranded earbuds on marketplaces, but with the advantages of a major brand, a companion app and a clear warranty.

2Design: light and compact

Each earbud weighs just 3.6 g and measures about 20.6 × 14.5 × 22 mm; the case is 53.9 × 53.9 × 27.4 mm and 32.8 g — the whole set is only 40 g and slips easily into a pocket. The bean shape sits inside the ear without pressing on the outer ear, so they stay comfortable for long sessions. S and L ear tips come in the box (with M pre-fitted); try different sizes for a better seal and fit. The earbuds are rated IPX4, so they handle sweat and splashes during light workouts or light rain, but don't take them swimming.

3Sound: 10 mm driver and 5 EQ presets

The Buds 6 Play use a 10 mm dynamic driver with a 20Hz–20kHz range, tuned by Xiaomi Acoustic Lab. With a driver this size, a reasonable expectation is punchy bass suited to pop, electronic music, podcasts and videos — good enough for everyday entertainment, but not for critical listeners. A plus is the Xiaomi Earbuds app with 5 EQ presets: standard, bass boost, voice boost, treble boost and volume boost. Voice boost suits podcasts and online classes; volume boost helps in noisy places. Xiaomi doesn't list AAC or LDAC support, so the earbuds most likely use only the basic SBC codec.

4Call noise reduction, connectivity and latency

The earbuds have AI noise reduction for calls: the microphones filter out background noise so the person on the other end hears your voice more clearly. To be clear, this is not active noise cancellation (ANC) — the earbuds don't reduce the noise you hear. If you need to block out noise on buses, trains or planes, choose a model with ANC such as the Redmi Buds 6 Active or higher. For connectivity, Bluetooth 5.4 gives a stable link within about 10 m, with Google Fast Pair (open the lid and a pairing popup appears on Android) and a low-latency mode of about 180 ms. That's enough for videos without lip-sync issues and casual games, but still noticeable in shooters or rhythm games.

536-hour battery and fast charging

This is the Buds 6 Play's biggest strength. According to Xiaomi, the earbuds last 7.5 hours per charge and 36 hours in total with the 600 mAh case — about a week of listening at 4–5 hours a day. A 10-minute fast charge gives about 3 hours of playback, as long as the case has at least 35% battery. The case charges via the common USB Type-C port. Note these figures come from Xiaomi's lab at 50% volume; louder listening or frequent calls will shorten real-world battery life.

6Who should buy it — and who shouldn't?

Buy it if you're a student or need your first wireless earbuds under 300K VND; want a backup pair or earbuds for light workouts; or prefer genuine earbuds with an app and warranty over unbranded ones. Skip it if you need active noise cancellation for commuting, low latency for competitive gaming, simultaneous connection to your phone and laptop, or high-quality codecs for critical listening. In those cases, consider higher models in the same line (Redmi Buds 6 Active, Redmi Buds 6) or ANC earbuds around 1 million VND.

8Should you buy the Redmi Buds 6 Play?

The Redmi Buds 6 Play are the best-value true wireless earbuds under 300K VND if you prioritize brand, battery life and convenience: 36 hours of battery, fast charging, Bluetooth 5.4, an EQ app, IPX4 and an official warranty. In exchange, there's no active noise cancellation, no transparency mode and latency isn't low enough for competitive gaming. For everyday music, videos, online classes and calls, they're a very sensible choice.

✓Pros

  • Very cheap (about 250–300K VND) for genuine Xiaomi earbuds with a 12-month warranty.
  • Strong battery for the price: 7.5 hours per charge, 36 hours with the case, 10-minute fast charge for 3 hours.
  • Very light (3.6 g per earbud) with a compact case, comfortable for long listening.
  • Bluetooth 5.4 with a low-latency mode of about 180 ms for videos and casual games.
  • Xiaomi Earbuds app with 5 EQ presets and customizable touch controls — rare at this price.
  • IPX4 water resistance, Google Fast Pair and a USB Type-C port.

✕Cons

  • No active noise cancellation (ANC) — AI noise reduction only applies to the mic during calls.
  • About 180 ms latency is still slow for shooters and rhythm games.
  • Xiaomi doesn't list AAC/LDAC support or multipoint connection.
  • No transparency mode to hear your surroundings.
  • The small bean shape may not stay secure in larger ears or during intense activity.
  • Fast charging only works when the case has at least 35% battery.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do the Redmi Buds 6 Play have active noise cancellation (ANC)?

No. They only have AI noise reduction for the microphones during calls, which helps the other person hear you clearly. If you need ANC, look at the Redmi Buds 6 Active or higher models.

How long does the battery last?

Are they good for gaming?

There's a low-latency mode of about 180 ms, enough for casual games and videos. In shooters or rhythm games that need fast reactions, this latency can still be noticeable.

Do the Redmi Buds 6 Play work with iPhone?

Yes, they connect via Bluetooth to any phone. However, Google Fast Pair only works on Android, and some customization requires the Xiaomi Earbuds app.

Are they water resistant?

Yes, they're rated IPX4, so they handle sweat and splashes during workouts or light rain. Don't submerge them or take them swimming.

Can they connect to 2 devices at once?

Verdict

8.3/10

Genuine Xiaomi true wireless earbuds under 300K VND with 36-hour battery, Bluetooth 5.4, an EQ app and IPX4 — great value for everyday music, study and calls, but no ANC.

Highly recommended for students and anyone wanting cheap wireless earbuds; if you need active noise cancellation, choose a higher model.
